What Canva does well
Canva excels at template-based design. Its drag-and-drop interface is very fast to learn, its template library is massive, and it covers the most common use cases: social media posts, presentations, flyers, and simple documents. For users who just need to fill in a template quickly, it works great.
Where Canva falls short
Canva does not have a real brush engine for digital drawing. Its shape tools are basic with no bezier curve editing. Layer management is limited. You cannot do pixel-level editing. AI features like background removal cost credits even on paid plans. For anyone who needs to actually create original artwork or customise designs beyond templates, Canva hits walls quickly.
What Camisual adds on top
- 1
Professional pressure-sensitive brushes
Camisual includes a full brush engine with Simple, Assisted, and Expressive modes. Expressive mode responds to stylus pressure and velocity, giving you the feel of Procreate or Clip Studio, directly in a browser tab. Canva has no equivalent.
- 2
Bezier curve shape editing
Every shape in Camisual can be edited with bezier handles. Select any shape, click "Edit Vertices" in the top toolbar, and drag handles to curve any edge into a custom form. Canva shapes are fixed and cannot be reshaped.
- 3
Full layer management
Camisual has a proper layer panel with named layers, visibility toggles, layer locking, and reordering. Each object sits on its own layer. You can group them, lock a background layer to protect it, and control opacity per layer. Canva's layer system is far more basic.
- 4
AI background and object removal
Both background removal and AI object removal are available in Camisual without counting against an AI credit balance. Open your image, go to the Image Editor (click "Edit Image" in the left panel), and use the BG tab for background removal or the Objects tab for removing unwanted elements.
- 5
Built-in image adjustment panel
The Image Editor includes an Adjust tab with sliders for brightness, contrast, saturation, vibrance, highlights, shadows, sharpness, and noise reduction. Plus filters, crop, upscale, and super resolution. In Canva, adjustment tools are basic and scattered.
- 6
200 million design assets
Camisual's built-in asset library gives you access to over 200 million photos, vectors, icons, and illustrations. Browse them directly in the left panel under the Library section.
Who should use Camisual instead of Canva
Use Camisual if you are a freelance designer who needs more than templates, a digital artist who wants to draw and design in the same tool, a business owner who wants full control over custom brand graphics, or a photographer who needs real image editing built into their design workflow. Canva is still a good choice if all you need is to fill in templates fast.
Pricing comparison
Canva Free has significant limitations. Canva Pro costs around $15 per month. Camisual has a free forever plan with core tools available at no cost, and a Pro plan with AI credits and team features at a lower monthly cost than Canva Pro. No credit card is required to start.
