Facebook cover photo dimensions

Facebook displays cover photos at 820x312 pixels on desktop and 640x360 pixels on mobile. To cover both safely, design at 820x462 pixels and keep key content within the central 820x312 area. The top and bottom strips may be cropped on mobile. Camisual has this preset ready to select.

Step-by-step: Design a Facebook cover

  1. 1

    Select the Facebook Cover preset

Sign in at camisual.com, click "New Design", navigate to the Social Media preset group, and choose "Facebook Cover" (820x312px or the safe-zone version at 820x462px).

  2. 2

    Create your background

In Shape mode, draw a rectangle covering the full canvas. Fill it with your brand colour or gradient. Alternatively, upload a wide landscape photo as your background image using "Add" then "Upload Image", and stretch it to fill the canvas.

  3. 3

Add your brand name or logo

Upload your logo PNG via "Add" then "Upload Image". Use the Image Editor BG tab to make the logo background transparent if needed. Position it on the left or centre of the canvas.

  4. 4

    Add supporting text

Click "Add" then "Add Text" to add a tagline or description beneath your logo. Keep it to one line if possible and use a font size around 28 to 40pt so it is readable at the size Facebook displays it.

  5. 5

Add a visual element on the right

A product photo, illustration, or icon on the right side balances the layout and draws the eye. Upload an image, remove its background using the Image Editor BG tab, and position it on the right side of the canvas.

  6. 6

    Export as PNG

Click "File" then "Export" and choose PNG. Upload the downloaded file directly to Facebook via your page settings.

Mobile safe zone

On mobile, Facebook crops the top and bottom of cover photos. Avoid placing text or important elements in those areas. Stick to the central strip of the canvas. Preview on a mobile browser after uploading to confirm nothing critical is cropped.

Tip

Design the cover to complement your profile picture rather than clash with it. Facebook displays your profile picture overlapping the bottom-left of the cover, so leave that corner clean.
